50 for Free 2018

Applications now open. Closing date Midnight Sunday 3 December 2017

We are delighted to announce that Landmark’s 50 for Free scheme is to continue for a fifth year. 50 for Free offers fifty short breaks between 12 to 19 March 2018 in selected Landmarks absolutely free to charities and non-profit organisations. By now, hundreds of people have benefited from a 50 for Free stay.

50 for Free brings the restorative benefits of a stay in a Landmark to those who need them most, but could not necessarily afford to book. The feedback from benefiting groups and individuals in past years proves the worth of such breaks, providing enjoyment, respite and inspiration.

The restorative power of a break away from daily routine can be life-affirming, a chance to reconnect with each other away from daily routine. Previous 50 for Free beneficiaries have enjoyed many different activities during their stays: walking, playing games, canal boat trips, fossil hunting, star-gazing – and simply taking time to talk, reflect, comfort others and self-heal. A Landmark stay can help in so many different ways.
If you are an individual, please help us spread the word about this wonderful scheme by forwarding this link to any charity, educational group or not-for-profit organisation whose members you feel could benefit from a break away.

Meal raised around £300 - fantastic effort by all the young people. Well done.

  Interesting Info from Torbay Hospital

The new Hospital Main Entrance on Level 4 is due to open later this week. It has accessible toilets plus a Changing Places Toilet. A spare RADAR key for this is available at reception if Carers forget theirs, but if they require a sling for the hoist, they need to bring their own (As slings are individually assessed, spares will not be available)

There will be a Carers and Disability Advice Point  to the rear right of reception which will initially be staffed 9-5 Monday to Friday, so feel free to ask any questions!

A massive Thank You goes out from Everyone at Phab Torquay to all those at Furroughs Cross Pre School who donated a cheque to us. They did a lot of waddling to raise it I believe! Thank you to Jan (Carls mum) for suggesting us.

PHAB ANITA DOBSON

Phab announce New President

Message from John Corless OBE, Chairman of Phab

I am delighted to announce that Anita Dobson has been appointed to succeed the late Ed Stewart as President of Phab.

Following her appointment Anita said “I am very proud and delighted to become President of Phab and look forward to the future with great hope and optimism.”

I know Anita will support Phab with great passion and bring her very special empathy to the role. We look forward to working with her as we approach our Diamond Jubilee year in 2017.

Yours

John Corless

Waitrose made the Phab Club one of their chosen charities for the month of October. As a result they were able to raise £242 for us, so a HUGE thank you to everyone concerned.

We hope you are enjoying Learning Disability Week. We have another reason to celebrate this week because it marks 50 years of The Gateway Federation.
Gateway Clubs up and down the country support over 20,000 people with a learning disability to access leisure activities and make friends every week.50 years ago these clubs were often hidden from the local community - some were even run in hospitals. For many people they were the only activity open to them. Today these clubs still offer vital opportunities for people with a learning disability but they are visible, member led and provide a variety of activities for people to socialise and make great friendships.
To celebrate this fantastic journey, Gateway Clubs are hosting jubilee parties all of this week. And to thank them for their great work we’re joining in the party with this  fun video!
Please share the video with your family and friends using #LDWeek16 and #gatewayjubilee
Thanks for making it count!

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Mencap who have given us a massive funding cheque of several thousand pounds which will enable the club to go forward to give our members some memorable experiences for some time to come.
